It’s interesting that the new job “Manager of Participatory Budgeting” has been included in the Mayor’s 2014 budget proposal. As Alderman Moore’s newsletter explains it: “With the establishment of this position, participatory budgeting for the first time becomes a part of the City of Chicago’s governmental structure so that every alderman can access this creative budgetary tool.”
While the budget is not finalized, it’s an interesting proposal that would enshrine Participatory Budgeting more formally into our neighborhood planning process (read more here). What do you think? Should a Manager of Participatory Budgeting be included on the City’s payroll?
