Chicago Alderman are discussing whether or not to install speed cameras through an ordinance called “Children’s Safety Zones.” Here’s our two cents: intersections are where most crashes happen, and speed cameras enforce the law whether or not a police officer is there to observe and ticket speeding. We support this ordinance. We think it’s following the Complete Streets thinking that builds public support for safer streets starting with friendly issues like safe school zones and parks- that’s because most people can buy into the idea that children at school and children playing should be safe. We think this is prudent and achievable. Our letter of support is downloadable right here.
